I paint a range of subjects like magnified depictions of fruit, pet and people portraits, contemporary landscapes and seascapes and my 'Happy Fish' collections. My latest work is focusing on Irish Lighthouses and and another collection using 24 ct Gold Leaf in a 'old negative' format to focus on iconic buildings in Ireland.
I am influenced by the impressionists like Vincent Van Gogh (my favourite artist) and Monet, and Turner's mastery of illustration and atmosphere. I am inspired by my natural surroundings; Form, colour, reflections, light and shadow, interactions, sometimes even TV.
I paint in oils, layering it on and often using acrylic mediums and other methods to create under-painted textural effects. My work is continually evolving combining contemporary art guided by traditional approaches. Make sure to say hello if you see me at the RDS or any other Art Fairs, I love to meet new people and talk about art.
